Claudio Bravo’s been poor, but yesterday could be the turning point in his Man City career

The goalkeeper debate at Manchester City has been one of the season’s most enduring story-lines this year.

It’s certainly rumbled on for the duration of the campaign, too, with it all kicking off before a ball had even begun rolling in August as Joe Hart had it made clear to him that he had no chance of playing for the side this season.

The man to replace him, of course, was Claudio Bravo but things simply have not worked since.

Make no mistake, the Chilean has had a shocker this season but there’s every chance his omission at West Ham could be the moment he needs to save his ailing City career.

Coming out of the City side might be just what Bravo needs to succeed.

It was getting to the point where the former Barcelona man was having the spotlight thrown on him every week and that kind of pressure very rarely sees a player respond in a positive way.

Certainly, goalkeepers feel it more than most and so him coming out of the side might just see him relax a little and see the attention on him die down.

He’ll still have to prove himself when he comes back, of course, but Bravo is a top class ‘keeper that is lacking confidence – he does have quality.

Pep Guardiola now has the ability to bring him back into a game where City would be expected to keep a clean sheet and should they, Bravo will surely begin to believe in himself once more.

You don’t play regularly in goal for Barcelona without having a bit about you and, despite the aspersions cast about him, Bravo still has the chance to make it work for City.
