Manchester City lost one of their most promising youngsters recently with Brahim Diaz completing a move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish playmaker was considered one of the hottest prospects in the City team, knocking on the door for a first-team call up under Pep Guardiola. With first-team opportunities limited on Eastlands, Diaz ran his contract down and refused to pen a new contract at the club. Instead, Diaz moved back to Spain with Madrid parting with £22m to land his signature last week.

While losing such a promising youngster is always a blow, there are plenty of other talents waiting in the wings for the Citizens.

One man who could be the next star to break into the first-team is young Spanish defender – Eric Garcia. The 17-year-old moved to England in the summer of 2017 from Barcelona but the switch went largely under the radar as City landed big-name signings such as Bernardo Silva. However, Garcia is now starting to stand out in training and could be nearing his opportunity to sign in the City starting eleven.

The La Masia graduate impressed during City’s pre-season tour of the United States and recently made his debut against Leicester in the Carabao Cup. Garcia shows maturity beyond his years and fits in well with the tiki-taka philosophy instilled by Guardiola at the club. With Vincent Kompany approaching the end of his career, Garcia could be a ready-made replacement for the legendary Belgium defender.

While losing Diaz will sting at the moment, there are plenty of other youngsters to be excited about and Garcia could be the pick of the bunch.
