The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern been in delirious delight ever since Pep Guardiola arrived to take the reins at the Etihad over the course of the summer.
Having watched their beloved Sky Blues embark on a hugely upward trajectory in recent seasons, the arrival of one of the world’s leading coaches has had the Citizens propping up the bar toasting to his trademark style of play.
Clearly, the Spaniard brings with him a wonderfully fluid style of play and the players he signed over the course of the summer have already had a huge impact on the ranks.
However, in an exclusive with City legend Peter Barnes, he’s revealed that he believes the most promising aspect of Guardiola’s rebuild has come in terms of allowing players to express themselves.
‘He’s given the players confidence to go and express themselves and play’, said Barnes, who played for the club across two different spells in the 1970s and 1980s.
In particular, the former England international has singled out Raheem Sterling for his improvement this season, with the former Liverpool man looking increasingly like the type of talent that convinced City to buy him in the first place.
‘Sterling is playing 20% better in his game’, said the 59-year-old.
‘He’s given Sterling confidence.’
Seemingly flourishing under his stewardship, the sky really does appear to be the limit for the 21-year-old.
