Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern will already be targeting next season, to continue their dominance in the Premier League after wrapping up the title already this campaign.

The Citizens have had a fantastic campaign so far, reaching and winning the Carabao Cup Final in spectacular fashion and being more than dominant in the league. With much of that being down to their German star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has played a pivotal role in Man City's season following his injury.

What many of our pub regulars feel is that City can hold off talks of a reported new contract with the midfielder, as they are in no rush to add to his two years remaining just yet.

Gundogan is no doubt a talent and at 27, he is entering the prime time of a footballer's career. However, our landlord believes there are better, younger and a lot more talented alternatives out there to the German international.

He has taken a look at TWO other alternate holding midfield men who could improve the Citizens even more next season...

Wilfred Ndidi

The Leicester City man is playing an important role within the Foxes' team this season and even more so since the departure of N’Golo Kante to Chelsea a couple of seasons ago. He can break down attacks, spot the easy pass to play to start a move and he's only 21!

City would get the best out of a player just like Ndidi, and many in the bar think that the holding midfielder would be a game-changer for Pep Guardiola's men.

Fabinho

The Brazilian, who is currently setting Ligue 1 alight with Monaco should be at least a number one target for City next season. His strengths include his ability to tackle and with his high concentration levels, he could be an instant hit in the Premier League after developing with the French outfit.

Fabinho also has a keen eye for goal with a handful of goals and assists, which would add another dimension to Guardiola's dangerous side.
