‘Give him the shirt & no one will take it off him’ – Leeds United fans pleased with transfer rumour

The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern have been taking a good look at their goalkeeping situation after reading a report in The Yorkshire Evening Post that claims the Whites are hotting up their pursuit of David Stockdale. This comes amid fears that they won’t be able to strike up a loan deal for young Manchester City shot-stopper, Angus Gunn.

The goalkeeping position at Elland Road has been an uncertain one in the season just gone. Felix Wiedwald held the spot between the sticks for the majority of the season, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell coming in and impressing towards the end of the season. Now, with Stockdale linked with a move to the club that he supports, it could be a good opportunity to clear out the deadwood in Andy Lonergan and Wiedwald and get Stockdale in to mentor the young Peacock-Farrell.

The best short-term option for the club would probably be to bring in the young Angus Gunn on loan from Manchester City. Whether the club signs the youngster or not could all be hinged on whether the Yorkshire club ensures that Marcelo Bielsa is their next gaffer. It’s reported that Pep Guardiola rates Bielsa as one of the best in the world and he will want to make sure his young prospects are leaving to managers that he trusts to maximise their development.
