While Kyle Walker’s arrival is a good thing for the Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern, they are eager to see Pep Guardiola continue to strengthen in that area, particularly.
Indeed, City’s lack of genuine top class options in those berths last time was seen as one of the major reasons as to why the Spaniard was unable to deliver a league title, so the fact they need to bring in more options is obvious.
So, reports from the Daily Telegraph stating Guardiola has revealed he wants 2 or 3 defenders before the close of the window have gone down a storm. The likes of Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy have all been let go and Aleksandar Kolarov is believed to want out of the Etihad.
”We don’t have full-backs, we try to buy full backs on the right side, not just Kyle, because the other three full backs we didn’t extend the contracts”, he said, speaking after their 2-0 friendly loss to Man United in Houston.
”Kolarov is one step to go to Roma. That’s we don’t have any other options.
“Of course we would like to have the players as soon as possible. We know the transfer market and how complicated it is and we are going to find the best solution.
“We need defenders. We need two or three defenders.”
With the Serbian able to cover as either a left-back or a central defender, Guardiola has revealed his main priority will be bringing defenders to Manchester this summer, music to the ears of our resident Citizens.
The likes of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero help form a wonderfully varied frontline for the club, so bringing in players to help shore up the defence is what our punters want to see happen.
