Guardiola discusses powerful midfielder deal as title challenge gets back on track

Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling a little more upbeat today after they beat Arsenal at the weekend 2-1.

They do, however, feel things could still be improved and remain a little concerned by Pep Guardiola’s comments (as quoted in The Times) about any potential new contract deal for Yaya Toure.

Whilst they were all too happy to celebrate getting their title challenge back on track at the expense of the Gunners thanks to goals from Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling there is still an air of needing more if they are to win the league.

Certainly, a decision over Toure would be more than welcome with the midfielder looking increasingly likely to play a big part this season and so getting him settled may prove to be the most important decision of their year.

However, for Guardiola, things don’t seem to be clear-cut right now as he offered a fairly inconclusive response when asked about the contract situation of the Ivorian.

The former Bayern Munich manager said:

“I have no answer to that question. I know he finishes his contract. Now we have time to discuss that.

“What I am impressed by most is his huge quality. He looks like a boy. He played awesome. It is not in terms of when he has the ball but the personality.

“Yaya plays at that level because he is fit and focused. He is an exceptional player.”

Our landlord thinks City should keep Toure at least into next season but what do you think? Let us know below!
