Pep Guardiola’s overhaul at Manchester City has delighted the supporters in the Transfer Tavern as the Spaniard prepares for old foe Jose Mourinho.
Having splashed over £100m during the course of the summer, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach has axed some big Etihad names recently.
Joe Hart has been shipped out to Tornio of all places, while Yaya Toure has been unceremoniously left out of their Champions League squad.
Now, according to the Sun, the 45-year-old is ready to axe another big name trio as he continues his rebuild.
The likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy could be set for a long Sky Blue goodbye.
All three have entered the final year of their deals and the Spaniard is said to have told them to prove they can play in his innovative style.
During the early part of his tenure at the club, he has opted to use inverted full-backs, who occupy more central defensive positions more often than not.
Having all reached the 30 mark, the club reportedly believe they have younger options to replace them.
“There are no talks in pipeline to discuss possible contract extensions for Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy”, a club source is quoted as saying.
“All three are out of contract next summer but all given a reprieve by Pep Guardiola to prove themselves this season.”
