According to The Sun, Manchester City’s young right-back Pablo Maffeo is set to sign a new contract with the club and earn himself a pay rise with it.
Our resident City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are certainly impressed by what they’ve seen of him so far, with his performance in the EFL Cup against neighbours Manchester United particularly catching the eye.
That was a game that the Sky Blues wound up losing, though Maffeo did enough to clearly capture the imagination and it now looks as though he could be at the Etihad under Pep Guardiola for some time to come.
The report suggests the defender could quintuple his earnings to £10,000 a week with the club as he looks to stake his claim as the man to take over from Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna as City’s main man on the right side of defence.
Maffeo earned experience with Girona in Spain last year and could be set for more appearances over the coming months for City.
