Manchester City are top of the Premier League table after a blistering start to the season.
The Citizens broke plenty of records on their way to lifting the Premier League trophy last season but made just one major signing in the summer. Pep Guardiola identified Riyad Mahrez as the perfect addition to his squad; City parted with £60m to prise him from Leicester. A new centre midfielder was also targeted with Jorginho his number one target as well as Fred before the Italian decided to join Chelsea instead with the Brazilian opting to join Manchester United.
The January transfer window is fast approaching, and a new midfielder should be Guardiola’s number one priority. Fernandinho is nearing the end of his career, and the former Barcelona boss should be on the lookout for a long-term successor for the Brazil international.
An ideal signing could be Toulouse wonderkid – Ibrahim Sangare. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the Ivorian has been one of the stand out stars in Ligue 1 this season and has earned plenty of praise for his excellent performances. Despite being in his third year as a professional, the 20-year-old is quickly emerging as one of the brightest prospects in France.
Sangare is a tough tackling industrious midfielder who Guardiola could mould into a Premier League superstar. The youngster has put up some exceptional statistics so far this season – averaging an extraordinary 4.3 tackles per game this season; more than any Premier League midfielder other than Everton’s Idrissa Gueye. Sangare loves to transition defence to attack, completing 2.2 successful dribbles per game in Ligue 1 this season, making him perfect for Guardiola’s system at the Etihad Stadium (WhoScored).
Under Guardiola’s guidance, Sangare could be moulded into the next Yaya Toure.
