Manchester City

If Manchester City want to win the league this 29-year-old must be there for 2017/18

Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are certainly expecting their side to be one of the most active in this summer’s transfer window.

City, at the start of last season, were expected by many to win the league as Pep Guardiola arrived on the crest of a serious wave thanks to his work at Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

And it looked like it would continue as City started on fire – before beginning to get worn down.

Indeed, the club ended up with just a top four finish to show for their efforts last year and it would make sense for Pep to spend big if he wants to win the league in 2017/18.

First of all, though, he needs to make sure one 29-year-old superstar is at the club for the new campaign – Sergio Aguero.

You don’t need any of us to tell you about how good the Argentine striker is, of course, with him being simply world class yet there is a feeling in the bar that Pep Guardiola might let him go.

Do that, though, and the Citizens are letting the best striker in the league go and would then have to somehow find a player that can replace him in terms of talent.

With that in mind we’re talking about the Luis Suarez’s and Gonzalo Higuain’s of this world – the creme de la creme of strikers – and they’re certainly not going to move.

City, then, can of course win the league next year, but selling Aguero would seriously harm their chances.
