Kai Havertz: The man Pep Guardiola can make a legend

Manchester City could be in the market for a centre midfielder during the January transfer window.

It was a case of improving on near perfection during the summer transfer window for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The Citizens cruised to the Premier League title as well as lifting the Carabao Cup meaning finding quality reinforcements was always going to be difficult. City made just one major signing, capturing Riyad Mahrez from Leicester for £60m.

Another area Guardiola was keen to strengthen was centre midfield. With Fernandinho approaching the twilight of his career, the Spaniard was eager to find a long-term replacement for the Brazilian and had targeted Jorginho before he moved to Chelsea. The ex-Barcelona boss could be on the search for another midfielder when January rolls around.

The perfect addition to his squad would be Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid – Kai Havertz. Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old is widely regarded as one of Germany’s brightest prospects after becoming a key player for the Bundesliga side. Havertz made 30 appearances for Leverkusen last season, scoring three goals and registering eight assists in the process. The youngster has made an excellent start to the new campaign and could receive a call-up to the Germany national team if his impressive showings continue.

Havertz would slot seamlessly into Guardiola’s favoured passing approach as he has completed 96% of his passes so far this season. The German also has a physical frame that would make adjusting to life in the Premier League much easier. Under the ex-Barcelona boss’ tutelage, he could become one of the best midfielders in the world.

If City are in the market for another midfielder, Havertz is the man they should be targeting.
