Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern can sit back, relax and enjoy the remainder of the season after being crowned Premier League champions for the third time as well as lifting the Carabao Cup.
While City blew the competition away in the league, they again fell short on the European stage, being knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Champions League by Liverpool. Pep Guardiola believes City require one or two more signings before he is happy with his squad.
The Citizens have quality options right down the field so it’s hard to figure out where the Spaniard would like to strengthen when the window reopens. Previous reports have so far suggested Guardiola will target Real Madrid playmaker, Isco, and what a signing he would be!
The former Malaga man has emerged as one of the world’s top playmakers and has developed into a crucial player for Zinedine Zidane yet rumours of isolation in the Madrid dressing room has fuelled talk of his departure. While there’s no guarantee that Madrid would allow such a talented player to depart, City capturing him would surely push them towards finally capturing the Champions League.
Valued at £67.5m by Transfermarkt, Isco would fetch a considerable fee if City were able to negotiate a deal with Madrid – one that could rival the amount Manchester United paid to Juventus for Paul Pogba.
Isco can play behind the striker, as a false nine or out wide and could be seen as the long-term replacement for David Silva. With the abundance of attacking options on disposal, a move for Isco could be unnecessary. Indeed, the La Roja magician also comes with the winning mentality Real seem to rely on these days, helping City convert their brilliance into trophies.
Should they pull it off, they will have acquired one of the world’s best playmakers.
City fans, do you need Isco next season? Let us know!
