Man City chief reveals Guardiola’s side have missed out on huge target

Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are pleased with their summer activity but are gutted they won’t be landing one superstar signing.

The Sun quotes Manchester City chief Txiki Begiristain has conceding that the Citizens are out of the running for the signature of Monaco starlet Kylian Mbappe, who has attracted the interest of a wealth of Europe’s top sides during the past few months.

“We are out of the race – it is impossible to do it with the time remaining. It will not happen, it is impossible.”

Mbappe instead looks set to leave Monaco to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain befoe the close of the transfer window and Manchester City’s business looks likely to revolve around their defensive lines, with West Brom’s Jonny Evans continuing to be linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola’s side have spent heavily this summer to bring in the likes of goalkeeper Ederson, full-back Kyle Walker and midfield ace Bernardo Silva but many believe they find themselves behind arch-rivals Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title.

Landlord’s Verdict

Manchester City fans may have been desperate for the services of Kylian Mbappe, especially as he tore through the Citizens during the Champions League last season, but it was never really clear where the teenager would fit in as Pep Guardiola’s side already boast Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.

For City, it seems their interest was purely based on no wanting to miss out rather than ensuring Mbappe is an immediate fit for their side and that’s likely to have played a part in the French international’s decision to elect to move to the French capital.
