Man City handed expensive price tag over 21-year-old target

According to O’Jogo (via The Daily Mail,) Manchester City want to sign Benfica’s Alex Grimaldo but are reportedly being put off by the touted price tag for the young defender.

Grimaldo joined the Portuguese side from Barcelona for just over £1 million but the club are thought to now want £38.5 million for the player if they are to sell him, something City don’t feel that they want to pay.

Certainly, our City fans here in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure about that kind of money on a player who has only really played in the Portuguese division but they hope the club, if they think he’s good enough, can work out a good price for the player.

The left-back has made ten appearances so far this season for the Lisbon-based outfit and has managed to accrue two goals in that time, with Guardiola said to be looking for more options in that area.

At the moment the Spaniard has the likes of Gael Clichy and Aleksandar Kolarov available to him for that role but the interest in Grimaldo suggests he may not be completely happy with that pair.

Top class options in such areas are generally hard to come by these days, though the Benfica ace could be the latest to join Guardiola’s revolution at the Etihad.
