Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left pinching themselves after hearing the latest reports this morning, which suggest they’re looking to smash the transfer world-record.
The Sun states Pep Guardiola’s side have held talks with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and have made it clear they’re prepared to pay £100m for the world-renowned forward, which would smash the transfer record set by Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United last summer.
Guardiola had a huge impact on Messi’s career during his young days and is keen to reunite with the Argentine forward at the Etithad Stadium – although City are yet to lodge a formal offer and there’s been no word from Barcelona as to whether they’d actually sell.
However, talks have been described as ‘positive’ and with Messi turning 30 this year, his years at the top of the game will be reaching a close and he probably has only one major transfer in him.
That said, our landlord believes he’ll stay in Barcelona for a few more years before finishing his career in Argentina.
The Manchester City fans here in the tavern are salivating at the prospect of Messia gracing the turf at the Etihad Stadium, and think the club would easily win the Premier League with the Argentine star in the team.
