The full-back department has been strongly discussed amongst the Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern this season, with that area in particular largely cited as one of their major flaws this term.
Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t always convinced this season and their issues in wide defensive areas have been well-documented, with the likes of Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy all the wrong side of 30.
So, the City slickers propping up the bar have been surprised to read reports from the Sun in regards to the latter. They claim the Frenchman is keen on the idea of staying in England for his young family as his time at the Etihad draws to a close.
Out of contract in the summer, the 31-year-old is said to have snubbed offers from France and Italy to remain on these shores, where he has played since joining former club Arsenal as a youngster way back in 2003.
“Gael wants to stay in England if he can. He’s out of contract this summer and he’s not expected to stay” a City source reportedly told the paper.
There has been interest in him from France. He still believes he has something to offer the Prem.
“It’s familiar surroundings here for him and his family. He has been here for a long time now and knows the country well.”
