Manchester City: Adam Hlozek has attracted interest from Premier League champions

Manchester City are among a number of high-profile European clubs showing an interest in 17-year-old Czech forward Adam Hlozek.

According to The Guardian, who named the Sparta Prague talent in their Next Generation 2019 feature, the speed, pace and strength of the young winger have attracted interest from the Premier League champions, with Bayern Munich and Ajax also believed to be admirers.

Writing in The Guardian, Pavel Hartmann described Hlozek as “the most talented young player to emerge in the Czech Republic since Tomas Rosicky”.

Hlozek only turned 17 in July but has already made 35 appearances for Sparta Prague’s first team, scoring eight goals and providing a further eight assists. [via TransferMarkt]

He has been a regular presence in the side this season, starting all but one of their Fortuna Liga matches so far and scoring three league goals, while he set up two goals in his team’s 4-0 win over MFK Karvina last weekend. [via TransferMarkt]

Such has been Sparta’s faith in him, that they gave him a new contract this year which takes him up to 2022, as per The Guardian, while he has been capped three times by his country’s under-21 side.

If Hlozek was to pitch up at Manchester City next year, he could not realistically expect to go straight into a team that already has a plethora of prolific wingers in Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane, who between them have 16 goals this season.

However, none of them made the progression that the Czech teenager has at 17 years and three months of age. That was the same age as Sterling when he made his Liverpool debut in a 1-2 defeat by Wigan in March 2012.

Sane was a full year older when he made his first-team debut for Schalke 04, Bernardo was 19 years and two months old on his Benfica debut and Mahrez had to wait until he was 23 before making a first top-flight appearance.

Hlozek has plenty of top-flight experience for someone so young and has already posted a more than decent return in terms of goal contributions, even if the Czech league is only 13th in UEFA’s association club coefficient.

However, if he was to move to Manchester City, he would likely have to be very patient to get his first-team chance, with Pep Guardiola tending to use young wingers very sparingly – Ian Poveda made just one senior appearance last season, while Patrick Roberts, Jack Harrison and Marlos Moreno have all been loaned out multiple times.

Manchester City fans, do you think Hlozek would be a good signing for the future if the club were to follow up on their reported interest in him? Let us know your views in the comments section below!
