Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern have grown used to their side splashing the cash but the latest deal reported in The Times takes the biscuit.
Since their takeover City have brought the likes of Sergio Aguero, John Stones and Raheem Sterling into the club for big money but The Times are reporting that they’ve broken a record with their latest deal.
And, whilst the fee is only £175,000, the age of the player that they’ve signed for that price is 13-years-old and he goes by the name of Finley Burns.
Most of our punters and indeed our landlord could barely believe such a price had been forked out for such a young kid by the club, whilst his old side Southend must be thinking it’s their lucky year.
It’s an incredible amount of money for a youngster who could end up not making it whilst the deal marks the most amount of money spent on a player that age.
Our landlord says good luck to Burns, though, and only hopes that the fee does not get to him as he develops with the Citizens over the coming years.
