Following the news that Manchester City favourite Fernandinho is out of contract in the summer and is yet to commit his future to the club, supporters have pleaded with the midfielder to sign on the dotted line and help their eventual transition.
The Brazilian has been a mainstay in the Sky Blues midfield since he signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2013, going on to help guide City to three Premier League titles, four League Cups and an FA Cup with his energetic and crucial presence in the heart of their midfield.
Are Man City making a mistake not signing a defender?
Particularly last season, putting on gargantuan displays as Pep Guardiola’s first-choice defensive midfielder cemented his status as one of City’s players of the season – providing a solid dimension alongside other heroes David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan.
As a result, fans have pleaded with the 34-year-old to stay beyond this season and provide his influence in midfield – with City’s recent centre-back struggles forcing him to move into defence.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
Lol he is miles ahead of gundo

Don’t get why. So much better than Gundogan and Rodri is still adapting to the league. He SHOULD be playing in midfield in my opinion. With Garcia playing more games at centre back.

The man still can play and he’s better than our young players.. give him a contract now

So we would rather have gundogan playing in that role (backup to Rodri) , than the best dm in the league for the past 4 years?

If they don’t give him another year they must be mad, he’s been our best Centre half this year and he doesn’t even play there. Yeh I know he’s 34 but he’s still got another year in him
