In a Manchester City team that included current players David Silva and Sergio Aguero, along with past Premier League winners such as Joe Hart, Kolo Toure and Pablo Zabaleta, one name which featured regularly in replies was Nigel de Jong.
He made 137 appearances for the club, scoring twice, although he was involved in a controversial moment in the 2010 World Cup final when referee Howard Webb later admitted he should have sent off the midfielder for a chest-high challenge on Spain’s Xabi Alonso. [via The Guardian]
These Manchester City fans identified de Jong as a player who stood out in Kompany’s testimonial:
De jong hasn’t aged or changed a bit
Ireland is still superman
Petrov’s left foot is still a cannon
