Speaking to BBC Humberside via the Sun, Scunthorpe United striker Kevin Van Veen opened up over Man City defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis ‘cashing him off’ during the Sky Blues’ U21s EFL trophy defeat on Wednesday evening – with the defender having since come out and denied the allegations.
According to a report from Sky Sports, a spokesman for the club has defended Harwood-Bellis’ corner and claimed that there were words exchanged between the pair but it had nothing to do with financial earnings. Van Veen scored two on the night to seal an impressive 3-1 victory for Scunthorpe over the young City side, with the striker reportedly happy that he ‘shut him up’. The English defender has been making brief cameos for Pep Guardiola’s senior side as of late, racking up four appearances overall this season, as per Transfermarkt, and impressing with his composure on the ball.
As a result of the youngster denying Van Veen’s accusations, City supporters have leapt to defend the 17-year-old on Twitter – here’s what they had to say.
It feels like a lot of the lower league players like this guy and Pope, simply use them as a way to get 5 minutes of fame. Embarrassing

Complaining over a 17 y/o sounds like someone’s slightly envious.
