Speaking in an exclusive interview with AS Roma’s official website via City Chief, former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko waxed lyrical over the club’s fans – prompting supporters to beg for a homecoming.
The Bosnian target man was a mainstay during Manchester City’s first couple of Premier League title wins, providing much-needed height going forward alongside Argentine duo Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.
Dzeko made over 180 appearances for the Sky Blues over a five year stay at Eastlands, scoring 72 goals and assisting 39 others, as per Transfermarkt – arguably scoring the second most important goal in City’s history at the time, the equaliser against QPR in the dying minutes.
He also played a crucial role in City’s second Premier League title win. Having been ousted from the side by Alvaro Negredo for the first half of the campaign, he eventually worked his way back into contention and scored some vital goals – including the opener in their integral 2-0 away win at Crystal Palace.
Speaking to Roma’s official site, Dzeko spoke about how he still receives fan mail from grateful supporters who still sing his name on matchday.
“I think they appreciate me even more now than they did when I was there – even if I must say that the City fans were always there for me,” explained the 33-year-old.
“But I still hear the City fans occasionally singing my name, you know, and some write to me calling me a legend. It’s nice.”
As a result, fans have either replied begging him to return home or continued the praise, here’s what they had to say about his 2016 departure.
Let’s bring him back home.

Occasionally? Regularly more like. Absolute hero. Need someone like him again to give us more options.

Worst move ever, unless they ditch Sane.
