Manchester City: Fans want Xabi Alonso to replace Mikel Arteta as assistant coach

According to a report from the Daily Star, if Mikel Arteta should resign as Manchester City’s assistant coach and join his former club Arsenal, Xabi Alonso and Giovanni van Bronckhorst are the names on Pep Guardiola’s lips as potential replacements – with supporters already making their minds up on who to go for.
Who should replace Mikel Arteta at Manchester City if he leaves?
Xabi Alonso

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Alonso, who has previously played under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Rafael Benitez throughout a legendary career, is touted by many fans as a great replacement for Arteta to become Guardiola’s new understudy.
The Spaniard, as well as having Premier League experience with Liverpool, has also played under Guardiola at Bayern Munich – with the pair enjoying an extremely successful spell in Germany together.
As well as this, Alonso also has years under his belt for Real Madrid in La Liga – who City face off against in the last 16 of the Champions League. Currently, he’s working as the manager of Real Sociedad’s B team.
His impressive resume has resulted in many supporters imploring Guardiola to hire him if Arteta leaves – with fans taking to Twitter and voicing their argument.
