According to The Daily Mail, Manchester City are aiming to sign Southampton’s Virgil Van Dijk as the successor to the injury plagued Vincent Kompany.
Our resident Citizens fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t quite believe what’s happened to their Belgian skipper in the last few seasons with him seemingly cursed with bad luck surrounding injuries.
Every time he has returned to the side this year he has been quickly ruled out again through another problem and it now appears that Van Dijk could be the only solution for Pep Guardiola.
The Dutch defender has impressed this season with a number of fine displays at the back for the south coast club, seeing his stock soar.
He reads the game impeccably well whilst he also has the ability to start off attacks from the back and that is something that the Spanish City boss looks for in all of his defenders.
The Citizens have been going well this season and sit just a point behind league leaders Chelsea heading into the clash between the two at the Etihad.
Our landlord reckons it’ll be a top class game between the pair whilst he also thinks that if Van Dijk was to join City, they may as well hand them the trophy.
