Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t wait for their side to start signing players in the summer window as they could certainly do with some new faces.
The Citizens qualified for the Champions League this season but that was all they really had to shout about as no silverware was earned by Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.
And, for many, it was the side’s defence that let them down despite their attack’s best efforts to blow away the opposition.
Indeed, the area that City need to strengthen most, arguably, is in both full-back areas.
For sure, the club has ageing options down both flanks and it should be expected that the Sky Blues get in some fresh alternatives – with Jose Gaya certainly a part of that.
Indeed, we think the young Spanish full-back – currently at Valencia – will be a big star in the future with him already impressing in La Liga.
He gets up the pitch as well as any modern full-back – something City certainly need – whilst he also has the time in his career to adapt to Pep Guardiola’s style.
One of the big problems Pep has had to battle this season is older players who can’t take on his approach so he needs to sign the likes of Gaya that can be moulded into this style.
For sure, being Spanish is certainly going to help him in that regard, too, and so we think the Valencia man ticks enough boxes for Guardiola to go for him.
