Manchester City will have to fork out around £120k-a-week in wages if they are to sign experienced Brazilian defender Dani Alves.
The former Barcelona star is a free agent this summer and is looking to continue his illustrious career after winning the Copa America for his country on home soil.
However, according to the Express via the Daily Star, Alves will cost City a massive sum in wages if they are to sign him, with the experienced right-back demanding a massive £120k-a-week to sign on the dotted line for Pep Guardiola’s side.
While that might not seem too much in terms of some of the wages paid by City at the moment (their highest earner is Kevin De Bruyne on £350k-a-week, according to Spotrac), Alves is right in the latter stages of his career, with the Brazilian set to turn 37 in 2020.
While Alves is certainly an experienced option and City do boast an awful lot of resources, the club have shown in the past that they are prepared to pull out of deals they’ve found too expensive.
Indeed, moves for the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Fred have seen plugs pulled on them due to financial concerns, so the English champions clearly know what they want to do with their money. According to Spotrac, only three City players earn more than the apparent wages Alves is asking for and with Kyle Walker widely considered the starting right-back, the club could end up finding themselves spending a lot of money on a squad option.
Few would doubt Alves’ quality after such a stunning career and though there is believed to be a willingness on City’s behalf to sign him, his demands might be a slight concern given their history here.
