After succumbing to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester United in their last outing, a match where they briefly struggled to contain the opposition’s blistering counter-attacks, some Manchester City supporters are questioning Pep Guardiola’s stance on Angelino currently being the favourite at left-back.
The Spaniard, who re-signed for the Sky Blues last summer due to the activation of a buy-back clause, struggled to contain the pace of Daniel James despite showing glimpses of talent going forward – with a section of supporters questioning why he is the favourite for the all-important left-back position.
Do Manchester City need to sign a new left-back?
Early goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial gave City a mountain to climb despite the home side gathering a lion’s share of possession – continuously probing the United back line before eventually breaking through five minutes from full time with Nicolas Otamendi’s strike.
Despite a late quest for an equaliser, the Sky Blues couldn’t do enough to share the spoils on derby day, with supporters now slamming Guardiola’s decision to favour Angelino in defence.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
Needs time!! Thats a laugh!

Guardiola is losing it slowly but surely.

I would rather have mendy than angelino. At least mendy can defend. By the way zinchenko is out best lb

Please do not compare Mendy 🇫🇷 with Angeliño 🇪🇸.
Mendy is one of the best left defenders no doubt.
Angeliño needs to much time to get a main player position in a team like City.
