Manchester City set to take a financial hit and release him

Joleon Lescott

Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern have raised their eyebrows at a story in the Daily Mail, which talks about the future of their centre half Joleon Lescott.

The publication claim that the defender will ask for a move in the summer after growing frustrated at his lack of playing time. The fact that Rio Ferdinand is now back in the England squad is something Lescott is panicking about and if a move means international football, that is what he will seek.

The defender cost City £24 million from Everton yet may be allowed to leave for as little as £4 million. We all know that City can take the drop in money yet a £20 million hit is a huge amount even for them.

The club are also facing a worrying time over the fitness of their skipper who is still not ready to return to first team action and has taken far longer to recover from injury than anyone would have hoped for or expected.

Despite Mancini claiming he ‘does not know why Jolean has been left out of the England squad’ the fact he has fallen so far down the pecking order at the Etihad even with the injuries and form of others may have something to do with it.
