Manchester City fans will be celebrating throughout the international break after a memorable 3-1 derby victory against Manchester United.

The Citizens took an early lead through David Silva and doubled their advantage through Sergio Aguero. The Red Devils hit back when Anthony Martial scored from the penalty spot, but Jose Mourinho’s men were no match for the Blues at the Etihad. Ilkay Gundogan ensured the victory late on, beating David de Gea following an exceptional 44-pass move.

The result moves City back to the summit of the Premier League, two points clear of Liverpool in second place. Pep Guardiola’s men look a level above their rivals and could become the first side since 2009 to secure consecutive Premier League titles. To continue their dominance, City would be wise to add to their squad in January.

One man Guardiola should be keeping a close eye on is Nice defender – Youcef Atal. Valued at just £3.6m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old arrived at the Ligue 1 club in the summer in a £2m deal from KV Kortrijk. Atal has made nine appearances since making a move to France.

The right-back has proven to be an excellent addition to the squad, and Europe’s top clubs will be taking note if his impressive performances continue. Atal is an excellent defender who loves to get stuck in, averaging 2.7 tackles and 2.2 interceptions per game in Ligue 1 so far this season. The fullback loves to transition defence into attack, averaging an incredible 3.8 successful dribbles per game this season (WhoScored).

Still improving and developing with every game, Atal could prove to be a mainstay in the City defence under Guardiola’s tutelage. Linking up with countryman Aymeric Laporte could complete City’s defence for years to come.
