Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern think Pep Guardiola is going to be a very busy manager in this summer window.
Indeed, after last season failed to really deliver any success the onus is now on the former Barcelona boss to address things and it seems as though he’s going to be expected to sign a lot of class players.
Certainly, he’s already begun that process by signing the likes of Bernardo Silva and Ederson and now we think he should be looking at Marco Verratti as the next big name to come in to the Etihad.
Valued at £38.25m by Transfermarkt, there can be no doubt that the diminutive Italian midfielder would enhance pretty much any team’s midfield and so City should be one of those trying to get him from PSG.
Indeed, they are in the privileged position by where they can afford him and their midfield could certainly do with a new tenacious man to help drive them about the pitch.
Certainly, Fernandinho has his limitations and Yaya Toure is also not the player he was so City’s central areas – for all their attacking talent – is crying out for some balance.
For sure, Verratti would bring that in abundance as well as genuine world class ability and should, therefore, be top of City’s list.
They can have all the attacking talent they want but without the linchpin turning defence into attack – as Verratti does – they’re not going to win the league next season.
