Manchester City suffer blow in chase for 26-year-old international

Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are keen to see their side go second with a win at Bournemouth tonight, helping banish the pretty negative news from Calciomercato about Alex Sandro.

The Citizens seem to have found their swagger again under Pep Guardiola in recent weeks and if they can secure all three points down on the south coast they will become Chelsea’s biggest title challengers.

The gap will be eight points, though, and so that’s still pretty big – meaning the focus is still largely on what can be done next season.

Indeed, City were interested in Juventus left-back Alex Sandro for the summer with many of the club’s defenders failing to impress this year but that appears to be unlikely to go through now.

That’s because the Brazilian international is likely to be offered a new deal to keep him with the Italian champions who are on course to win the Serie A title once again this time around.

City may have to look for other targets, then, but our landlord reckons even with this coming to light you can never rule anything out for good.
