Anthony Martial is yet to sign a new contract, and Manchester City should look to take advantage.

The 22-year-old was tipped to be a future Ballon d’Or winning after bursting onto the scene with Monaco back in 2015. His performances prompted Manchester United to fork out an initial £36m to bring the youngster to Old Trafford. However, his relationship with the club has seriously deteriorated following the arrival of Jose Mourinho.

Now, the forward has less than one year remaining on his current deal and previously stated his desire to leave the club in search of regular game time after Alexis Sanchez was signed from Arsenal back in January. Reports suggest United are keen to secure his future at the club, but Martial hasn’t featured for the Red Devils since being replaced after an hour during the 3-2 defeat against Brighton. Should he decide to find a new club, Manchester City should be first in line for his services.

Valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt, Martial could finally realise his potential if he moved to the Etihad Stadium. Under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage, both Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have thrived; the wingers were key to City cruising to the Premier League title last season. Working with the Spaniard could help bring the best out of the former France international and help him win back his place in the national side.

Not only would signing Martial improve their squad, but it would also be a massive blow to their arch-rivals. With Sanchez reportedly earning £490,000-per-week at Old Trafford, City could end up signing Martial for absolutely nothing. And at just 22-years-old, the best is yet to come if he can find his feet at the Etihad.

Signing Martial would prove to be a masterstroke from Guardiola.
