Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are expecting their side to be the busiest in the transfer window and it certainly looks like an idea that is hard to disagree with.
Indeed, the men from the Etihad are certainly looking set to go all out in terms of their transfer activity this year as Pep Guardiola looks to assemble a title winning team.
For sure, he needs to get in some more defenders as that is where he was let down most of all last season by his team and it looks as though Virgil Van Dijk could be on his way in.
Even so, City are going to have to fork out a great deal of cash – even by their standards – to get the Dutchman it seems, at least if The Sun’s report is anything to go by.
Indeed, they are of the opinion that Van Dijk’s current club Southampton wants £70 million before they consider selling him – an eye-watering amount even by these modern standards.
City, though, would surely be able to afford that kind of deal with change to spare thanks to their massive wealth and so all we can do is wait and see if they decide to go and sign one of the stars of last season before he got injured.
