Manchester City will have a massive task on their hands to retain the Premier League trophy next season.

The Citizens have made just one major signing this summer – the £60m capture of Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez. Pep Guardiola is a long-term admirer of the Algerian winger and sought to bring him to Manchester back in January. Finally, the Spaniard has got his man.

Liverpool look best equipped to challenge the Citizens for the title next season after spending £170m to strengthen their squad. The Reds have also managed to keep stars like Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah at Anfield. However, Jurgen Klopp missed out on his top target – Lyon captain, Nabil Fekir.

Valued at £54m by Transfermarkt, the World Cup winner could be an excellent signing for the Citizens. Fekir enjoyed a stellar season in Ligue 1, scoring 18 goals and notching eight assists as Lyon finished the season in third place. Landing his services would be a huge blow to Liverpool’s transfer plans.

The France international thrives in a number ten role but can also be used on the wing or a striker. He is blessed with excellent pace, terrific dribbling skills and an eye for goal. His arrival would lessen the creative burden on Kevin De Bruyne’s shoulders and give Guardiola a long-term replacement for David Silva.

At just 25-years-old, he is approaching the prime of his career. Under Guardiola’s tutelage, Fekir could prove to be a Manchester City great.
