Manchester City fans are patiently awaiting their next signing after Riyad Mahrez penned a five-year-deal with the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola identified the Algerian winger as the perfect signing to bolster his attack back in January, but the Citizens were deterred by Leicester’s huge price tag. Determined to get his man, Guardiola returned in the summer and eventually agreed on a £60m fee for the 2016 PFA Player of the Year. Mahrez joins an attack already consisting of world-class talent.

Given the abundance of talent available to the Spaniard, it will be hard to identify areas of improvement this summer. Nonetheless, City would be wise to sign another left-back this summer. Benjamin Mendy missed the majority of last season through injury forcing Fabian Delph to an unfamiliar role.

Therefore, City should attempt to sign Real Madrid defender – Nacho Fernandez. Valued at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, the 28-year-old is a natural centre-back but is comfortable at right or left back making him the perfect signing to add much-needed cover to City’s back line. He made 27 appearances in La Liga last season, scoring three goals.

Nacho travelled to Russia with Spain and netted one of the goals of the tournament in the 3-3 thriller against Portugal. He has experience in Europe and would be an excellent rotation option as Guardiola looks to retain the Premier League trophy next season. He would slot seamlessly into City’s passing system, completing 90.8% of his passes last season (WhoScored).

With Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane forming a formidable partnership in the Madrid defence, City could tempt Nacho into moving to England.
