Manchester City are looking to become the first side since Manchester United in 2009 to retain the Premier League title.

The Citizens were unstoppable last season and broke all kinds of Premier League records. City became the first side to win over 100 points and equalled the record for the earliest time to be crowned champions. Despite their success, Pep Guardiola is still putting the finishing touches to his squad.

The Spaniard opted to spend £60m on Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and also identified Napoli midfielder Jorginho as the perfect replacement to Fernandinho. However, the Italian instead joined Chelsea following Maurizio Sarri’s appointment. Guardiola still wants to add a defensive midfielder to his ranks this summer.

After Jorginho’s rejection, City should make an ambitious offer for Chelsea talisman – N’Golo Kante. Valued at £72m by Transfermarkt, Kante has been linked with an exit after the Blues missed out on Champions League football. Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois are both expected to depart the club, and Kante could follow suit.

Signing the World Cup winner would make City unstoppable next season. Kante was crucial in both Chelsea and Leicester’s title-winning season. His non-stop running in the centre of midfield, combined with his excellent tackling and brilliant interceptions, making him one of the world’s best defensive midfielders.

City need to someone to keep them ticking when things aren’t going their way – just look at how they crumbled against Liverpool. Kante would help settle things down and allow City to be at their brilliant best.
