Our West Ham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are certainly expecting their side to do some serious business in the summer window with it certainly already underway.
The men from the London Stadium really do need to get extra players in to help bolster their squad and in signing Pablo Zabaleta they have gone for a proven Premier League performer in an area that needed boosting.
For sure, then, signing the Argentine from Manchester City appears to tick the right boxes initially, and now the club, arguably, should complete a similar process and go for Zabaleta’s former team-mate Gael Clichy.
Clichy, like the Argentine, is going to be at a different side to the Citizens in next season but has still yet to find a club that is going to take him on.
He does, however, seem like the kind of player that could do a good turn for the Hammers with him boasting plenty of experience and still having more than enough ability to play in the Premier League.
Then, when you consider the shortage of options the east London side has at left-back it begins to become clear that Clichy could be a superb acquisition.
Of course, wages may be an issue but the Hammers are certainly one of the sides better placed to sort out that factor and with Clichy coming in they’d suddenly have a solid looking back-line that, arguably, would be one of the best outside the top six.
