Serie A heavyweights aiming to pull off clever £3.8m deal for Man City stalwart

Pablo Zabaleta

You really get the sense that it is fast becoming an end of an era at the Etihad Stadium as the looming figure of Pep Guardiola prepares to arrive over the course of the summer.

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is hoping the club pay the remained of defender Pablo Zabaleta’s contract as he lines up a sneaky summer swoop, according to the Daily Star.

Now in charge of Inter Milan, the Italian coach worked with the tough tackling Argentine right-back to great success across their time together at the Etihad.

Under his stewardship, the 31-year old established himself as one of the most resolute defenders in the Premier League.

Its hard to imagine there will be a dry eye in the house should the former Espanyol depart, such is the nature of his popularity with the club.

However, with Guardiola on the way this summer, there is expected to be a major overhaul of the club’s ageing squad following what has been a miserable season.

Having made just 12 league starts this season, he has seen his previously assured starting berth usurped by Bacary Sagna.

As a result, the Nerazzurri will try and construct a deal that will see the Manchester giants shell out the remaining £3.8m of Zabaleta’s deal in order to bring him to the San Siro.

Does Zabaleta have a future under Guardiola?
