Manchester City fans in the Tavern are enjoying the remainder of the season after watching their side lift the Premier League trophy last weekend, but they know there is a lot of work to do if they are to retain their crown.
Pep Guardiola will aim to become the first side since Manchester United back in 2009 to retain the league title as he gears up for his third season as head coach of the Citizens. Indeed, City invested heavily last summer in their playing squad, investments which proved to be worthwhile as they ran away with the league and added another League Cup to the trophy cabinet.
Following City’s success, their Premier League rivals are also set to loosen the purse strings to create a squad capable of matching the Citizens. Still, they must avoid making the same mistakes as Chelsea did this season and continue to spend wisely in order to remain at the top of the division.
Though their current frontline is something to marvel, if Guardiola is targeting a forward this summer, he should move for Inter Milan hitman, Mauro Icardi.
The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world in recent seasons, scoring 26 goals in just 30 appearances in the Serie A alone this campaign. A deadly finisher, Icardi would flourish alongside the attacking quarter of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Valued at around £67.5m by Transfermarkt, City would offer the Argentinean international the chance to be competitive in the Champions League – which Inter cannot yet guarantee for next season.
City fans, would you rather see Mauro Icardi lead the line than Sergio Aguero? Let us know!
