Manchester City have made just one major signing during the summer transfer window.

City’s £60m capture of Leicester City winger, Riyad Mahrez, stands as the only significant transfer made by the Citizens this summer. Mahrez was targeted back in January, but the Foxes demanded upwards of £80m for their prized asset. A few months later, Guardiola has finally got his man.

Their Premier League rivals have strengthened considerably this summer, but City’s squad remains arguably the best in the division. Nevertheless, the Citizens could still use some additions before the window slams shut on Thursday. Adding another central midfielder has been made a priority by Guardiola.

Therefore, City should make an audacious attempt to lure Toni Kroos from Real Madrid. The Whites have already lost Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this summer, and Luka Modric could be set to follow him through the exit door. There is no better time to try to convince Madrid to part with their star midfielder.

Valued at £72m by Transfermarkt, Kroos has been a crucial player for Los Blancos since joining from Bayern Munich back in 2014. He is arguably the best passer in world football and would be a dream signing for Guardiola. The 28-year-old made 27 appearances in La Liga last season, scoring five and assisting seven as well as helping Madrid lift the Champions League trophy for the third season in a row. Kroos was recently named German Footballer of the Year for 2018, so certainly comes with some pedigree to say the least.

The Germany international would be extremely costly. However, he would be worth every penny. His arrival would solidify City’s position as title favourites and help the Citizens become the first side to retain the Premier League trophy since 2009.
