The Manchester City fans crowding around the tables in the Tavern have been left scratching their heads after The Evening Standard reported that incoming manager Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Theo Walcott.
The report indicates that Guardiola has told the Etihad outfit to monitor the 27-year-old after doubts were raised over his future at Arsenal.
City are reportedly keen to bolster the number of homegrown players in their squad as their current league squad is below the maximum threshold due to a lack of homegrown players.
Word over by the slot machines is that the Blues are happy to meet the England international’s current wage, which is currently around £140,000 per week.
The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates in recent weeks, following the return of Danny Welbeck and the impressive performances of Alex Iwobi, with Walcott set to undergo talks in the summer to discuss his Arsenal future.
When asked if the winger would be at Arsenal next season, Wenger said:
“I don’t know yet. I’m not in transfer mode at the moment, but I think he has gone through a bad spell. He has responded very well, because he said: ‘Okay, I will work harder and more.’
“”Even when he comes on now, you see he is motivated and focused. Let’s see how well he finishes the season now.”
Our landlord believes that Walcott could possibly be a good signing as he is relatively versatile and can be a clinical finisher on his day.
