BBC Sport have put a downer on what has otherwise been an excellent season for Manchester City fans.
The Citizens have become double winners and were even linked with an audacious swoop for Lionel Messi – but that is now off the table.
The Barcelona star has penned a new deal at the Catalan club and it seems that a move to the Premier League is never going to happen.
That has disappointed a fair few of our regular punters as we of course will now have to be content with watching Messi on the big screen and not up close and personal each week.
The new deal at the Camp Nou will move the Argentine ahead of Crisitano Ronaldo in the world’s highest paid player stakes, with Messi now set to earn around 20 million euros each season.
Of course, that is an astonishing sum of money for just about anyone to earn and even someone as good as Messi may not quite be worth such a figure!
That also means that City will have to look elsewhere this summer – not that they really had much of a chance in landing Messi at all anyway!
Do you think that Manchester City did have a real chance of landing Messi or was it all just a far-fetched pipedream? Let us know us your thoughts below.
