Manchester Clubs Set To Battle It Out For Inter Star

City rivals Manchester United and Manchester City are set to battle it out for the signature of highly rated Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder.

The World Cup finalist has found it difficult at the Italian club in recent weeks and the failure to agree a new contract at the San Siro has alerted the blue and red halves of Manchester to the possible availability of the Dutch international should contract negotiations break down.

With a somewhat aging midfield, United boss Alex Ferguson see’s the 26 year old as the perfect addition to the playing staff at Old Trafford, as his great ability and control on the ball would help keep the North West club challenging Chelsea for the Premier League title for years to come.

However, high spending Manchester City are also monitoring the situation regarding Sneijder and would happily jumped at the chance to add the former Ajax man to the growing list of world class talent at Eastlands which already boasts the likes of David Silva, Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez in its ranks.

While Sneijder is currently experiencing difficulties at Inter regarding a new contract and relationship with new manager Rafa Benitez, who took over the club at the start of the season, the Italian champions will not be willingly to simply let the Dutch star leave on a free once his contract expires and are ready to cash in on the playmaker should a contract extension not be agreed in the near future.

Should both City and United make their interest in the player something more substantial, it is thought that it would take a bid of around £35 million to secure Sneijder’s services and while the Dutchman would no doubt be a good addition to the Premier League, at such a high potential fee, it could be a price which is out of United’s capability at the present time.
