The Japanese international midfielder moved to Old Trafford in 2012 from German giants Borussia Dortmund but in truth, the move hasn’t really worked out for him.
Now, according to the Daily Star, his miserable spell in the Premier League is set to be ended with the 25-year-old closing in on a return to Dortmund.
Reports suggest that the player’s agent is in Germany finalising personal terms in a deal worth around £8 million.
A move away from Old Trafford has been on the cards all summer with new boss Louis van Gaal preferring Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj in the attacking midfield positions.
van Gaal also dressed down the player recently with the Dutchman frustrated that the Japanese star was unable to alter his game to suit his new 3-4-1-2 formation.
“Kagawa, I have tried to play him in that position in the US and he could not fulfil my wishes and my philosophy,” said Van Gaal.
