Manchester United ace closes in on season long loan move

Nick PowellPunters are looking up with understanding faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Daily Mail claim that Manchester United are set to send Nick Powell on loan for the season.

The midfielder has missed the Red Devils’ pre-season campaign through injury and whilst he is certainly part of the long-term plans at Old Trafford, David Moyes is keen to allow the former Crewe Alexandra star to spend the season on loan and gain some vital first team football.

Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle is on very good terms with United boss Moyes and has spoken about the possibility of landing the player on loan for the season.

The Latics boss noted: “I am always loathe to talk about everybody else’s players.

“Everyone knows that me and David [Moyes] have a very good relationship. He [Powell] is a hugely talented player.

“If and when he becomes available, I would certainly love to bring a player of that calibre to the football club if it is possible.  He goes away with England Under-21s. I’m led to believe this week – somebody told me that.”

As one of our punters quips, a deal for Powell to spend some time in the Championship at Wigan would be perfect for the player as it would allow him to play week in, week out and would also enable him to stay in the North West and prevent a move down south which could well unsettle the player further.

Manchester United fans. Does such a deal make perfect sense? How good a player can Powell be for United in the future? Let us know your thoughts below.
