After hearing the latest revelation from Metro, Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking a little bit uncomfortable to say the least.
It has been well publicised that the club have struggled this season under David Moyes, and their league position does not lie. As one of our punters quips, things could be set to get a whole lot worse.
Current first choice left back Patrice Evra has spoken out about his future at the club, and has hinted that all is not well.
He not only disclosed that he misses Sir Alex Ferguson (at which point our punters quip that Evra is not alone there) but he also refused to commit to a new deal.
Evra understandably has been put out by the club’s pursuit of not only Everton’s Leighton Baines – who Ed Woodward made clear was their primary target this summer just gone – but also of Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao.
As our landlord notes, Evra is not getting any younger, so it is understandable that the club are looking around for alternatives. What is inexcusable however is the way they have done it. Footballers are sensitive creatures – and none more so than Evra!
The player himself claimed that a personal matter was placing his future in doubt. He noted: “It is a personal thing. It is not that Manchester United do not want me to sign a new contract.
“Manchester United would like me to finish my career there, but this is something personal.”
Is Evra hinting at a return to his native France and Ligue 1? A return to cash rich Monaco maybe? Let us know your thoughts below.
