Metro have Manchester United fans looking up wishfully today in the Football Transfer Tavern after they note that Red Devils ace Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on the Cesc Fabregas saga.
The defender has unsurprisingly claimed that he wants Fabregas to join United and thinks the former Arsenal captain would be a brilliant addition.
Ferdinand noted: “I don’t know what’s happening, we [the players] just listen to the news and ready everything online and wait and see.
“Any quality player like him that comes to Manchester United is welcomed with open arms – and he is a quality player.”
Each day there seems to be a different story in the press over the future of the midfielder, with the Spanish press noting that Fabregas will be staying at Barcelona for at least one more year (a claim that Arsene Wenger backs up) while the English press today report that a meeting between 26-year-old Cesc and new manger Gerardo Martino will be held this week and the player will make a firm decision on his future then.
There are a couple of things we know for sure – to land Fabregas, David Moyes will have to break the bank and the previous transfer record currently held by Dimitar Berbatov. Fabregas himself just wants to play football with the World Cup fast approaching and Barcelona would like to keep Cesc but should the player ask to leave and the right offer materialise, they will not stand in his way.
Will Rio get his wish with Fabregas signing on at Old Trafford this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
