After the latest claim from the Daily Mail, Manchester United fans are looking slightly uncomfortable in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication seem to think that Wayne Rooney could well be forced to consider his future once again this summer with United yet to begin contract extension talks with the player.
This, as one of our punters notes, would leave the champions rather vulnerable should the player decide that his future lies somewhere other than Old Trafford.
Rooney is expected to once again face claims that he asked to leave the club this summer upon the release of Sir Alex Ferguson’s book, and we all know his thoughts on that.
Despite this, our landlord points out that the England international is playing the best football we have seen in a long time, and he is also seemingly happy under David Moyes.
Should United fail to begin negotiations over the renewal of Rooney’s contract, they will seriously have to consider selling him this summer, or risk losing him on a free a year later.
Of course this is not something the club can afford to do, and they are well aware that both Chelsea and Arsenal are still circling and keeping tabs on the situation.
Ed Woodward has hinted that the forward will be offered a long-term deal this season, but as one of our regulars notes, Woodward is not exactly the best man to inspire confidence after his summer dealings!
