Manchester United aim to partner Rojo with international team-mate

Ezequiel GarayManchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate for their club to bring in defensive reinforcements and they hope Louis van Gaal can land one of Andre Villas-Boas’ Zenit St Petersburg’s stars after missing out on previous targets.

According to The Express, the Red Devils are confident of landing Ezequiel Garay despite the Argentine international only having joined Zenit from Benfica in the summer for £12 million.

It is clear that van Gaal is desperate to fix his leaky defence and he sees the 28-year-old defender as the right man to lead them in the right direction.

The former Real Madrid hardman has been a long-term target of Manchester United and was linked again this summer.

However, a move has never materialised to date but Garay’s move to the Russian club went through before the Dutchman was officially in charge at Old Trafford.

But despite missing out on his man, the United manager believes he will be able to lure Garay to the Theatre of Dreams as he will have the confidence in building a defence around him.

And van Gaal also hopes that bringing in Garay will lead to him forming a formidable partnership alongside Red Devils new boy Marcos Rojo after the pair played together at the World Cup for Argentina.
